“Topping Off” Your Gas To Save Cash Is Costly

A lot of people will keep pumping after the pump clicks which is an indicator that their gas tank is full. Why do they do this? I don’t know. If this is you then please listen, I am here to advise - that is harmful to your car engine, your gas mileage and our environment. And I have a genuine suggestion how you can save on gas and improve your MPG
When you top off your gas tank there is a probability that gas will evaporate or get overflowed and spill out. This is just wasteful.
That is the most observable problem you may cause when topping off your gas tank. Gas expands as it gets warmer. This is absolutely a big situation during the summer or in warm weather climates. Gas from underground tanks will be cooler on average than the air. As it gets warmer in your gas tank it takes up more space. As the gas takes up more space it requires more room in your gas tank.
If you top off your tank, then there is no extra room for the gas to expand. That is the definition of a problem It may find it's way into your car's vapor collection system. That could easily muck up this system causing it to have damage. If this happens your car will run badly and have high gas emissions.
The gas that expands and is lost is gas that you have paid for. Again that means that you are paying for unusedgas . Your cost of gas is increased again.
A poorly operating car means that you are hit two times, once for the gas that is lost directly and second for the extra gas your car starts to use because it is running inefficiently. Double ouch!!
Gas vapors are a source of poisons emissions such as benzene and contribute to smog. Gas vapors are unhealthful. When you overfill your tank you will inevitably get some vapors into the air. Which means that you are breathing in toxic fumes but are causing smog.
The next time you pump gas, when the pump automatically clicks your gas tank should be full enough. Do not top it off. Not only will you be saving cash, you will you not endanger your health and you will also be not contributing to smog!
