Beware of Ads for Cheap Software, First Do a Little Homework

By: Marge Reed

One of the newsletters you have received has an ad for cheap software with claims to make your marketing more efficient or less time consuming. It is advertised for $7, $10, $27 or $37.

Hold it right there, do some research first. If the software is new it will cost much more. Purchase of such software often comes with no support to speak of because the original developers have gone on to other projects. For example, I did a search for a keyword program and clicked on the ad for Brainstorm Generator, a keyword program. I thought it might have some value for finding niches for adsense websites. Although I thought it appeared interesting the download price was $10.
eBay usually tons of ads for cheap software and listings of many down loadable ebooks. I did not find any ads for cheap software listed on eBay, which was my first search. The results from a web search revealed a site marketing the same program for $2.95.

Total research time, 5 minutes. I further found out that the software was first offered for sale in 2005 for $297. Sometimes older software has some use, but usually support is not available.
What that really means to me is that someplace I can probably find it for free. A $7 saving for 5 minutes isn't bad.

Lastly, more searching can often turn up sites where the software could be accessed for no cost whatsoever.
