Biodiesel Alternative Gas Solution

By: GARKO

One of the fuels that Rudolf Diesel originally conceived of for his engine system was regular old vegetable oil that you buy in the supermarket. Now this idea is now emerging as so-called "biodiesel." Biodiesel can be generated from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant grease. It is biodegradable and can substantially diminish auto emissions of particulates, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons. A mixture of 20% biodiesel with 80% petroleum diesel (B20) can generally be used in regular diesel engines. The manufacturing of biodiesel shot up from very little ten years ago to about seventy-five million gallons in 2005 which then tripled to two hundred and twenty-five million gallons in 2006. Most biodiesel is produced from soybean oil at over one hundred facilities and is available in every state.
Biodiesel generated from soybean oil might have some of the same flaws of biofuel though.
And Biofuel is not anything to be associated with today.
The frantic push for biofuels is already posing a threat to world food production and human life.
The problem which has not been solved is how the world can grow enough food to produce biofuel energy and at the same time keep up with the enormous demand for food
In the next 20 years or so, the world population is predicted to increase to such an extent that a fifty percent increase in food production would be needed. In 70 years based on current projections, it would need to double. But the urgent movement to biofuels - supposedly environmentally friendly - translates in reality to a reapportionment of farm land to growing food for energy purposes.
The rise in demand has already causative of the substantial rise in the prices of basic crops, including wheat, over the past two years.
Biofuels have been heralded as a solution for reducing the greenhouse fuel emissions pumped out by fossil fuels however recent studies have questioned how much benefit that they might have when all elements of the equation, such as the use of pesticides and such on the crops, arefactored into the equation. Critics have been angered by the rapid destruction of tropical rainforests, which have been cleared to allow farmers to grow biofuel crops.
Laying waste to forest landDeforestation has been found to cause roughly 18 percent of the planet's greenhouse gas emissions and many environmentalists consider the idea of eliminating forest land in order to grow crops for biofuel to be insane.
