If you have ever been responsible for several different caterings at a time, you know how important it is to find the right help. Your catering supplier should offer a wide variety of options suitable for just about any occasion so that you do not need to have different suppliers for different occasions.

Unfortunately, catering to your guests doesn’t stop there. We live in an increasingly multi-cultural society and you may have to consider religious and/or lifestyle choices that might affect your catering menu. Having vegetarian options is always a good idea.

Have you ever been to a good restaurant, had great food, but still come away with unimpressed. Chances are you encountered poor service. It is a well-known fact that, given a choice between good food/bad service and bad food/good service, most people will prefer the good service option. The same is true for your catered event. Even at receptions, where hors d’oeuvres are served, it’s important for servers to always have napkins available and be able to explain what is in the item they serve. Service at a catered event is one of those things that you don’t necessarily notice, unless it is bad.

Even if you know you need a wide variety of healthy foods and great service from your catering company, how do you know whether a particular catering company can provide them? The first thing you can do is to start looking with a critical eye any time you are at a catered event. Taste the food, make sure it’s warm, and check the service. Word of mouth is also a good way to learn about good suppliers. Talk to friends family and business associates to learn about their experiences, good or bad, with catering companies. The internet is a great place to find out about a particular company. There are numerous forums where users of catering services discuss their experiences and the companies they have used. Perhaps most useful of all are catering web sites. Of course, a catering company can say what they like on its site and make everything look delicious, but, if you know what to look for, you can at least spot the better companies from where you can start your selection process. A catering company’s web site should show you at least the majority of their menus. In other words, if you can’t see the variety you are looking for on the web, then there is less chance it exists in reality. Web sites should also give you at least some idea of prices. A catering company that does not list any prices probably is trying to get you to call – that’s up to you, if you have the time.
