The number of companies offering DSL in Florida today is vast. Each company offers the most attractive package as possible in order to lure customers. Let’s figure out the difference and if the hunt is worth the bother.

A Definition of DSL

Digital Subscriber Lines – DSL carries data at high speeds over standard telephone wires, internet, satellite and cable.

Types of DSL in Florida

ADSL, or Asymmetric DSL, works over an ordinary phone line by using frequencies above the voice band. With ADSL, data downloads are much faster than uploading data.

Rate Adaptive DSL, or RADSL, works the same way over your telephone line, but iy adjusts data speeds based on signal quality.

For super fast DSL, consider VDSL/VHDSL, or very high bit rate DSL, which gives you the highest bandwidth service to maximize data transfer speeds.

These are the most commonly used types of DSL in Florida.

Advantages of Using DSL in Florida

Most people sign up for DSL because they get a much faster connection than with dial-up internet service. No longer must you wait for long periods of time to download files and pictures. Also, since the technology shares the bandwidth of your telephone line, you can browse the internet and use your phone at the same time.

Since DSL does not need any additional wiring, you can use the phone jack next to your computer. Just plug in the modem, which most internet service providers will give you when you sign up for a service package. If they don’t, a basic modem isn’t an expensive investment, and is readily available at department or electronics stores.

Disadvantages

You may have trouble connecting at times or the speed may drop if you are located far from your DSL provider. The closer to the provider location, the better your service. Keep this in mind when choosing between providers of DSL in Florida.

Finally, most people sign up for an ADSL account. You may not realize that downloading data is about three times faster than sending data with this type of account. This shouldn’t matter unless you’re using your connection for business and home use, in which case sending large product files could be time consuming unless you upgrade.

Still, these disadvantages are minor compared to the benefits. DSL in Florida is provided by a very large number of companies from AT&T to Verizon Wireless and thus, the choices are many. In order to make the right choice, be sure to compare packages and prices before making any decision.
