Congress Holding Big Oil Accountable With New Legislation!

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to hold the oil industry accountable in passing H.R. 5351, the “Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act of 2008,” which reallocates around $18 billion in oil company subsidies over the next 10 years and reapportions those billions to renewable energy solutions. Now the Senate must make it law to help bring Americans a breath of fresh air at the gasoline pump and lay the groundwork for the type of clean energy investments we need to combat pollution
Congress is to be applauded for their action to move subsidies out of the pockets of Big Oil to clean, renewable alternatives because the oil industry, fueled by $102-per-barrel oil, not only is recording highest ever profits, but has been spending more money buying back their own stock than on supporting any growth of the USA’s energy infrastructure. If the petroleum industry refuses to provide the necessary investments that the USA needs to help us prosper, then it is only right for Congress to take back recently awarded subsidies to the treasonous bastards.
By providing this new revenue, the legislation directs critical funding for key alterative energy investments, some of these can directly benefit home owners struggling with high energy costs.
So please take a moment to call your Senator and tell them to do the right thing. The planet that you might save might be your own.
