Hey, Mr. Valentino!

By: Adam Wolfe

Honestly, parking somebody else’s auto used to be one of the things I avoided the most. I don’t care if it was for a closed friend, my twin sister, or even my spouse; it was just unappealing to me to park another person’s car. To me, it’s not that different from putting on their clothes for them.
Then I receive a call--it’s my supervisor—the auto parts guy. “Would you like to be a valet attendant for a day?” Don’t know what to react. Tired from hiding offensive issues surrounding our place, I thought I deserved a pause. Then here I was being asked to act the role of a valet attendant—complete with the requisite attire. Please give me a break. I expect he had asked me to be a massage parlor attendant or even a macho dancer instead. But obviously, the task had to be motoring-associated.
Inspite of my rejection, Mr. Valentino’s sales-talk know-how—exactly the kind he uses on hot chicks—won me over.
Here’s a confession: Even after agreeing to do it, I felt so anxious about the whole thing that I actually attempted to wiggle my way out of the task. I did it by delaying the first granted pictorial session. Unprofessional? Maybe, but I was prepped to take whatever they had to say as long I could loose myself from this potentially shameful scene.
I was certain that my supervisor would just be so hopeless that he’d eventually just find another writer to deal with the task. I planned to just fade away if he didn’t bring up the matter again. But with the kind of determination that one could only happen after a lifetime of getting scrapped by the ladies, my supervisor just suspended the pictorial.
After eating we arrived at the hotel, the organizer was there to accompany us. That day, everything seems to be typical.
The hotel staff members were considerate and quick. A hotel valet parking boys should posses a pleasing attitude. The chief officer of valet attendant quickly briefed me on the ABCs of being a valet attendant. The job wasn’t simple after all.
