Mastopexy for sagging breasts?

By: Marcus Landauer

If you have ever considered having Mastopexy cosmetic surgery, you are one of a growing number of women in the UK who are looking to surgical options to hold back the effects of time on their bodies. Last year in 2006, nearly 29,000 plastic surgery procedures were carried out in the UK according to a survey carried out by The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). While there are not specific figures for Mastopexy surgery available, breast procedures accounted for just under 10,000 of these plastic surgery operations.

No matter how fit we are and how much effort we put into staying fit and healthy, the effects of gravity will eventually take their toll on our breasts, causing them to sag and droop. To counter these problems women in the UK go out and buy products from an army of breast firming creams, collagen treatments and skin conditioning creams to try to hold back the years and the effects of time. However, eventually, even these measures cannot be enough, and acceptance of drooping breasts along with the need to wear a good supporting bra to maintain breast shape is the only non surgical option available. However, plastic surgery involving a breast augmentation or Mastopexy surgery can return your breasts to their more youthful appearance.

Provided that we want to reverse these effects of time and gravity enough and are willing to pay for it, we can elect to have a form of cosmetic surgery designed to lift our breasts and visibly return them (almost) to the way the used to be in our teens and twenties. It would seem that as cosmetic surgery is becoming increasingly 'socially acceptable' and affordable, growing numbers of women in the UK are resorting to the surgeon's knife and undergoing breast lift surgery every year. If this is a choice you decide to make or at least actively consider, then the next step is perhaps more difficult. Choosing your cosmetic surgeon!

The British Association of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) recommends that people seeking cosmetic surgery should speak with their GP first. This is always a good idea, as your GP can counsel you and help you to reach your decision about whether breast uplift surgery is for you or not. However, you may find that some GPs are unable to make a named recommendation to a private plastic surgeon, which is not surprising as many GPs may not have detailed knowledge of cosmetic surgery or know of a local surgeon who is best qualified to carry out your procedure. If you find that this is the case for you, don't worry - expert advice is at hand.

In line with BAPRAS recommended good practice, The Landauer Cosmetic Surgery Group offer you a service where they will not only manage the entire referral and surgical process for you from start to finish, but they will also offer you a free initial consultation with an expert cosmetic surgeon over the phone, so that your needs and expectations can be fully discussed, before you even have to leave home. The Landauer group uses only BAPRAS or BAAPS registered surgeons, so you know that any referral they make for mastopexy surgery will be to a surgeon who is qualified as an NHS Plastic Surgery consultant and has at least six years experience of working at this senior level - giving you both peace of mind and confidence that your surgery will be carried out by the best possible surgeon for your needs, in your area.
