Talking Fashion

Well who determines what is fashionable and what is not? I would think the type of clothes one wears would primal depend on the region he or she comes from. Having a whole wardrobe filled with tracksuits of different designers and yet you live in the tropical regions would therefore seem to be rather of poor utilization of common sense. The average sane person would mostly wear Wellies that go along with the inherent geographical environment an area is situated in.

After taking a look at the primary factor of fashion determinants, we can consider the next determinant factor to be cultural background. In some cultures it would be a taboo to reveal certain parts of your body to the general public for either of the sexes. This then follows that the general trend of wear would be biased towards clothes that cover a large surface of the body. There are however some cultures where any sex, especially females can walk around wearing nothing but sufficient enough clothing to cover their reproductive organs. Wellies for females then would be out of fashion for one wearing anything that covers most of her body.

With cultural background covered, we can look at the different intrinsic factors within a society that determine the so called fashionable trend. This can, to some extent be determined by the season of the year. In the colder times, or dry season, clothes tend to be made of material that has a darker colour. This may be due to the scientific fact that darker colour absorbs more heat so those in the colder areas or in the colder times of the year can take full advantage of the little heat supplied by the sun by wearing those clothes with darker colours.

Looking further into the colour factors, one now needs to consider the business factor. Creativity among those designers in the society then determines the appearance of the clothes. The way a new design is also advertised can also have an influence on its persistency in the market. Wellies advertised using icons such as popular celebrities like models, political revolutionists or sports people and the like gain popularity in society as compared to those designs not advertised.

Fashion, then, I would say, is determined only by the most influential people in society, so wherever there is an influential person, his or her taste in clothes is what will determine the capacity of a certain fashion to persist.
