The Relationship Between Southern California Culture and Breast Augmentation

In some cultures, looks mean everything. Whether it's the way you walk, style your hair, wear your clothes, or the shape of your body, the "right look" can have a profound affect on your social status.

As much as we might think that here in America such judgments are archaic -- symbolic of an uncivilized people -- it could be argued that people in America, or at least parts of it, are more harshly judged based solely on their looks than in any ancient civilization or in any other part of the modern-day world.

In few places is this more true than in Southern California, a hub of society's elite where the rich and powerful rub elbows with the rich and famous. In Los Angeles in particular, where many of Hollywood's stars and starlets choose to make their homes, what you drive, how you live, and how you look are often the basis on which you are judged.

A beautiful woman, as defined by the Southern California society, means small waists and firm, usually large, breasts. The pressure to be judged positively by one's peers has created a huge demand for experienced plastic surgeons willing to do liposuction, nose jobs, and breast augmentations in L.A. Demand drives price, and in few places is the price for breast augmentation higher than in Los Angeles.

While some residents of Southern California might brag about how much money they spend, the smart ones gained their riches by understanding the value in all things. Why pay a premium for breast augmentation in Los Angeles when you can get the same service done from an equally experienced doctor out of state for much less?

Some savvy Utah doctors have made a business of attracting breast augmentation patients from high-demand areas such as Southern California and enticing them with much lower prices.

Some of the world's most renowned plastic surgeons studied at Utah's medical universities, reputed to be among the best in the world, and have stayed on to set up their private practices in Utah where they are able to offer the same services L.A.'s most in-demand surgeons offer, but at a much lower price.

You Don't Always Get What You Pay For... Sometimes You Get More

Why are Utah's plastic surgeons able to undercut California's breast augmentation wizards by so much? While some of it has to do with lower demand, much of it results from the lower cost of living and lower cost of facilities in Utah.

A private plastic surgery clinic in Utah pays far less for their facility. Furthermore, a doctor can live a similar lifestyle as a doctor in Los Angeles, but at a much lower cost. In other words, doctors in Utah spend much less money than doctors in California do.

The cost of breast augmentation and other plastic surgery services in Utah is so much lower, that adding in the cost of a roundtrip plane ticket and hotel stay still results in a much lower cost. And, when the patient comes out of surgery, they'll have the opportunity to ski the best snow on earth!
