The Wide World of New Recipes

By: MIKE SELVON

Do new recipes frighten you? But at the same time you are tired of the same old box meals that just require adding water? The rest assured that new taste sensations are just around the corner and can be as easy to make as those boxed dinners.

The trick is to keep it simple and not panic or become overly stressed. New meal dishes should be about adventure and bringing new experiences home.

The joy of cooking comes from the end product. Perhaps it is that perfect souffle or roast duck surrounded by tender vegetables in a butter sauce. Whatever you are cooking, it should be something that you enjoy and would like to eat.

If you are not a fan of Brussels sprouts then it would not make much sense to waste time preparing them if they will not be eaten. Step one: all recipes come from a desire to eat the finished product so find something appealing.

The second step to finding new recipes is to look in a variety of sources. Friends, family members and co-workers are great sources of recipes. There are also free ones on a variety of websites.

Try using a search engine such as Google to find an ethnic cuisine or any other world ones. The options for new meal dishes are endless and are only limited by your ability to search.

Sometimes new meal dishes require a different set of cooking utensils. An example would be preparing sushi at home. One of the requirements for making a sushi roll is a bamboo sushi mat.

Do not attempt to improvise on some utensils because it will prove harder in the long run rather than just buying the required cooking utensils right from the start.
Read the recipe carefully and make a note of all the utensils you will need before beginning.

One further tip when trying to create new meal dishes. If you are preparing a new recipe for a gathering, try making it a few days in advance. The added stress of trying something new when pressured for time can often be a recipe for disaster.

This is especially true if the dish does not turn out quite like you imagined. Prepare the dish, taste it and then decide if it is something you want to share with friends or family.

New recipes bring a breath of fresh air to our lives. It is easy to find ourselves in a culinary rut eating the same things on certain days of the week.

No more shall we be oppressed by the standard Monday Macaroni Day. We can have the world's delightful culinary differences right in the comfort of our own home.
