Without local news people would have little idea what is happening in their community. Even in modern times where people can contact each other instantly on their mobile phones or via email, people still need local news to give them the whole picture about what is happening locally.

Local newspapers also offer local traders the chance to advertise their products and services, and conversely for people to find out about local businesses and contact them.
