There are simple to use calculators to should be used by the rookie and then there are more advanced calculators that of course should be used by the advanced players. Learning the odds from a poker calculator means that you get a high level of interactivity and that you learn as you play. We all know playing against a maniac can be frustrating but invigorating as well. A similar situation and hand selection occurs in late position, but especially when you know your opponents in the button/blind play are tight. Those cards look good, especially at a loose table, against foolish opponents, but it is absolutely a hand to play in position, with aggression, and not early with weakness where a negative EV is guaranteed. Josephine Daniels have played online poker for the last 3 years. We all fit into the tight aggressive matrix rather snuggly. Of all the poker calculators available on the market, none of them have ever addressed the needs of the amateur online player that focused his play and growth in the game by way of tournaments. Those cards look good, especially at a loose table, against foolish opponents, but it is absolutely a hand to play in position, with aggression, and not early with weakness where a negative EV is guaranteed. I mean most internet players play tournaments, right? This is especially true of the hundreds of thousands of players who are working from limited bankrolls, just trying to get ahead in this game. It’s Friday night and you know the competition is going to be solid. I am not saying it isn’t a good product, but it doesn’t bring anything new to the market, and in that sense there are better options. If your opponent has a VPIP higher than 30% you can assume all the hands above but added to that are connectors, suited cards, any ace, any two big cards and any pair from any position. The only stable period where long term stats MAY be useful is in the first 2 or 3 levels. You can normally expect a competitor in this range to be either be playing hole cards with inherent strength, position blind steals and position potential hands like connectors. At this time I had lost nearly 90% of my bankroll and I figured that the calculator wasn't working. You are just not going to get pot odds when you need it, but you can’t wait until becoming so short that 3 other players will find it easy to call you. Any particular player can take on many characteristics during a single tournament (never mind hundreds). That didn’t help him, and you really want him to fold now so put out your 4 bucks, and then, the worst thing happens, he raises. The solution is to play some marginal hands, meaning that sometimes you actually play ace, ten unsuited and maybe you win and maybe you lose. I find myself wondering why this product not been created any sooner. Theses assistants are great but you have to take into consideration that if you follow the advice every single time you will be a sitting duck to the more experienced players. I made 41 final tables in three months! To put this in perspective, I made one final table in the two years before that! I even created a spreadsheet that I used by my tournament window that calculated the Mzone with some inputting on my part. When you are new to something it is easy to overrate ones abilities and going for an advanced calculator. It's the quickest way to determine your opponent's style of play and when combined with other indicators the VPIP will generally be an accurate guideline for game planning against a particular opponent. In a couple of weeks I had stopped the money from leaking out of my bankroll and I could concentrate on my aggressive game. But poker is a game that persistently challenges not only your intellect, but your emotions as well. Learning the odds from a poker calculator means that you get a high level of interactivity and that you learn as you play.
